We've all experienced a refrigerator that smells like freshly cut onions, barbeque or something (eeew) that's simply been living there too long. It's easy and inexpensive to create your own fridge freshener. You'll need:

Sugar shaker
Baking soda
12 drops bergamot or sweet orange essential oil

Start with an aluminum sugar shaker (sometimes called a dredger), the kind used for sprinkling powdered sugar or flour when baking. Measure out enough baking soda to fill the shaker within 1/2" of the top. Dump the baking soda into a mixing bowl and add the bergamot or sweet orange essential oil. Mix thoroughly, eliminating any clumps with the back of a spoon. Return the mixture to the shaker, screw on the top, place in the back of the fridge, and you're done! Optional: you can add dried orange peel, dried lavender flowers or whole cloves to the baking soda blend to boost its freshening power.
