Good Essential Oil Beginner Kits

Since last month's presentation at EOR2, I been getting a lot of inquiries on the best essential oils for beginners. It isn't necessary to have a huge collection of essential oils if you're starting out. With just a handful of essential oils and one carrier oil, you can effectively use aromatherapy for basic everyday ailments. Start with a few essential oils and master their use. Then add one or two to your collection as needed and as you can afford. And always, always take a good basic class and have some reputable basic aromatherapy books to study!

Everyone has a different opinion, but this is my recommended starter kit for healthy adults and older (age 8-10+) children:

Lavender (Lavandula augustifolia)*
Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)*
Geranium (Pelargonium X asperum)*
Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) or Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquinervia viridiflora)*
Basil (Ocimum basilicum ct linalool or ct methyl chavicol)*
Carrier: Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond or Hazelnut oil

Later, you can add the following oils as needed to make up a "Basic Bakers Dozen":

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia
German chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
Eucalyptus Radiata (Eucalyptus radiata)
Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) or Spearmint (Mentha spicata)
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct cineole
Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)
Carrier: add 1 or 2 more carriers; in addition to the above-mentioned or Macadamia Nut, Peach Kernel, Rosehip Seed oils

If you intend to use aromatherapy on young children (6 months-10 years), you'll need a different starter kit, one composed of oils that are safe for small bodies:

Lavender (Lavandula augustifolia)*
Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)*
Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis
Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)
Black Spruce (Picea mariana) or Scotch Pine (Pinus sylvestris)
Carrier: Apricot Kernel oil

*We've been selling aromatherapy starter kits for a long time, and our Starter Kit includes these oils at  discount over purchasing them separately.
